Welcome to the GulfMan Half Iron Triathlon the grand finale event of the Gulfman Triathlon Festival II.
Athletes from across North America and around the World will be competing in this extreme test of endurance. The event begins with a 1.2 mile swim in Como Lake at Galveston Island State Park. Following the swim athletes will ride 56 miles out and back towards Freeport via San Louis Pass and back for a final half marathon run of 13.1 miles.
Both the run and the bike are on pancake flat ground so times will be fast. If you are looking to set a PR for this distance of event this is the event for you.
Check In Information and Triathlon Expo
Registration and Check in are on Saturday, April 1 between 2pm and 8pm, at the Moody Gardens Visitor Center. The Triathlon Expo will have all the latest triathlon gear.
Morning Check in is one hour prior to the race start.
Carbo Buffet Dinner
Saturday April 1st from 5pm to 7pm at the Moody Garden Visitor Center, Garden Restaurant. Tickets cost $10
The Swim 1.2 miles
The swim course is rectangular in configuration in Como Lake, water temperature will be in the low 70’s. Wetsuits are allowed but not mandatory.
The Bike 56 miles
Bike course is one loop traveling West on Seawall Boulevard (FM 3005) going beyond San Louis Pass over the causeway towards Freeport and then back to Galveston Island State Park.
The Run 13.1 miles
The newly designed run course takes athletes through the surrounding neighborhoods of Galveston Island State Park, there will be some sections along the beach, however the sand is hard packed similar to a running track.
Split Transition Zone
The bike to run transition zone T2 is located across FM 3005 from the swim to bike transition zone. Make sure you place all your running gear at T2.

Aid Stations
Aid stations will approximately every 15 miles on the bike and every 1.5 miles on the run. Water, Gatorade and Gels will be available at all aid stations. An example of an aid station will be set up during registration. The Aid Station Co-ordinator will be there to answer any of your questions. Please do not ask the Co-ordinator to place any of your personal supplies at any of the aid stations.
Rules
All USAT rules are in effect.
This is a non drafting event.
Spectators who wish to support their friends en route may only hand out support at designated aid stations only.
Any athlete who accepts support at a non designated spot will be asked to withdraw from the event.
This is to keep the event fair to all competitors since many travel from afar will not have the benefit of bringing their own support crew.
Safety Notes
The swim course will be monitored by professional lifeguards, listen to their instructions at all times as they are there to assist you.
The majority of the bike course takes place on Seawall Boulevard out towards Freeport. There is a wide shoulder for about 80% of the bike route and one lane of traffic, while the remaining 20% has two lanes of traffic with a narrower shoulder. Athletes are not allowed to ride beside each other as this event is open to public traffic.
Use caution when approaching any intersection controlled by a professional flag person or police officer.
Vehicles may not be adhering the instructions of the police officer or flag person.
Galveston Island State Park Fees
Galveston Island State Park charges $5 per person who enter the facility. The Gulfman Triathlon Festival will be selling a "Spectathlete Pass" for $10 which will includes a $15 credit towards future events as well; Park entry and lunch. Those who purchase a pass directly from the park office will receive a $10 credit towards any future event. Passes will be available for purchase during registration and check in. Athletes entry is included in race fees. All event credits are fully transferable, two can be put together towards one entry.
